Why should I invest in translation software tools?

THREE reasons why investing in translation software tools is a smart decision

🔺 IMPROVE EFFICIENCY

The more information you feed into the databases, the faster you team can work.
Eliminate repetitive work: Segments or translation units are recorded by the CAT (computer assisted translation) tool in a Translation Memory (TM). When the same segment  or a very similar sentence comes up, the previous translation is proposed to the linguist.

Find terms quickly: Instantaneous lookup of terms that have been stored in the database. TMs can also be searched to find terms in the context of a previously translated sentence.

🔺 CUT COSTS

Translators who have access to rich translation memories and terminology management tools work faster and the output volume will increase.

Reduce the cost of proofreading/editing: We have access to previously approved translations and terms. We are able to check for errors and correct our own work before delivery. Our translations will therefore be more accurate and contain less errors, thus reducing the time spent on proofreading/editing.

Pay for less words: CAT tools have embedded functions that allow you to analyze a file based on your TM. The analysis will tell you how many “new words”, “repetitions”, “exact match” and different levels of “fuzzy match” your documents contain. Rates vary among these categories of text. For instance, if “new words” cost 100%, exact matches may cost you 20% as they only need a quick proofreading, or even nothing if you are sure they are flawless and therefore instruct the translator not to process them at all.

🔺 IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF YOUR DOCUMENTS

Consistency: CAT tools ensure consistency in the use of terms, titles and sentences, as they identify and provide immediate access to everything contained in their database.

Quality assurance processes: CAT tools allow for quality assurance processes, automatically checking for all sorts of potential errors like typos, double spacing, inconsistencies, and tag problems.

Advantages of Using Translation Software (CAT tools)

CAT tools have been designed with the aim of making the translation process easier by building and updating translation memory banks during the translation process.
These are some advantages of using translation software:
  • Drastic gain in time and efficiency
  • Terminology consistency throughout documents which avoids later mistakes
  • Consistency when the same sentences or terms appear later in the text to be translated
  • Less amount of manual entry work needed thanks to the pre-translated grammatical and orthographic suggestions
  • All terms used for our clients can be stored in the same translation memory
  • Alignment features enable us to turn previously translated documents into translation units (TUs), so they can be added to a translation memory

All of your previous translations can be stored for future re-use so that the same sentence never needs to be translated twice. Furthermore, the acceleration of project completion will mean that you will be able to accept more work and increase your revenues.

Without using a translation memory to capture this repeated content for future re-use, you will be localizing the same phrases time and time again. This can slow down project completion, as well as reduce the quality of your work, potentially leading to customer dissatisfaction.
